Cấu trúc đề thi Writing VSTEP

Trong hệ thống VSTEP, kỹ năng Writing được thiết kế nhằm đo lường khả năng diễn đạt bằng văn bản theo 02 cấp độ: tương tác và lập luận mang tính học thuật. Bài thi kéo dài 60 phút, gồm 2 phần với yêu cầu và trọng số điểm khác nhau

Phần 1 (Task 1) tập trung vào viết thư hoặc email với độ dài khoảng 120 từ, thời gian gợi ý 20 phút và chiếm 1/3 tổng điểm. Dạng bài này kiểm tra khả năng giao tiếp thực tế: lựa chọn giọng văn phù hợp, triển khai ý rõ ràng và sử dụng cấu trúc linh hoạt. 

Phần 2 (Task 2) là bài luận khoảng 250 từ, thực hiện trong 40 phút và chiếm 2/3 tổng điểm. Đây là phần thi yêu cầu thí sinh phân tích một vấn đề xã hội, đưa ra quan điểm cá nhân và bảo vệ lập luận bằng lý do, ví dụ cụ thể.

Tiêu chí chấm Writing VSTEP

Để làm tốt đề thi Writing VSTEP, bạn cần nhìn bài viết dưới góc độ người chấm. Thực tế, giám khảo không đọc hay hay dở theo cảm tính mà bám rất sát 4 tiêu chí dưới đây:

Mức độ đáp ứng yêu cầu đề (Task Response)

Không ít bài mất điểm vì viết lan man hoặc thiếu ý. Ví dụ, đề yêu cầu “discuss advantages and disadvantages”, nhưng thí sinh chỉ phân tích mỗi lợi ích thì sẽ mất điểm ngay. Một bài đạt cần đủ độ dài (khoảng 150-250 từ tùy task), trả lời trúng câu hỏi và có ví dụ cụ thể.

Tổ chức và mạch lạc

Ý tưởng tốt nhưng trình bày rối vẫn bị trừ điểm. Một đoạn chuẩn nên có câu chủ đề + giải thích + ví dụ. Từ nối cần dùng đúng: “Firstly… In addition… However…” thay vì lặp “and”.

Từ vựng

Một bài viết được đánh giá tốt không cần phải dùng những từ cao siêu, nhưng phải đúng và phù hợp ngữ cảnh. Ví dụ, thay vì lặp “good”, bạn có thể dùng “beneficial, effective”. 

Ngữ pháp

Bài viết ổn cần kết hợp câu đơn và câu phức: “Although online courses are flexible, they require strong self-discipline.” Nếu chỉ dùng câu ngắn đơn giản, bài sẽ bị đánh giá thấp về độ đa dạng trong ngữ pháp.

Công thức viết Writing VSTEP dễ áp dụng

Nhiều người học Writing VSTEP không thiếu ý tưởng, mà thiếu một công thức rõ ràng để triển khai. Phần dưới đây sẽ giúp bạn nắm được cấu trúc viết dễ áp dụng, tối ưu điểm số nhanh chóng:

Công thức viết Task 1

Opening 

Luôn bắt đầu bằng “Dear + tên người nhận,”. Với đề bài không nêu tên cụ thể, thí sinh có thể dùng “Dear Sir/Madam,” hoặc “Dear + chức danh”. tránh thiếu dấu phẩy hoặc viết tắt thiếu trang trọng.

Body

Nội dung cần bám sát yêu cầu đề (thường 2-3 ý) và triển khai theo từng đoạn ngắn, mỗi đoạn xử lý một ý. Công thức hiệu quả:

• Câu 1: nêu mục đích (I’m writing to…)
• Câu 2-3: giải thích/chi tiết hóa (thông tin, lý do, mô tả)
• Câu 4: mở rộng nhẹ (đề xuất, cảm xúc, mong muốn)

Lưu ý: dùng đúng thì (quá khứ/hiện tại/tương lai) theo ngữ cảnh; ưu tiên câu đơn, câu ghép rõ nghĩa; tránh lan man vượt số từ.

Closing

Kết thúc bằng “Best,” “Sincerely,” “Yours,”… kèm dấu phẩy. Trong VSTEP, các thí sinh không cần ký tên thật hay địa chỉ, có thể thêm một câu kết ngắn trước đó như “I look forward to your reply.” để tăng tính tự nhiên.

Công thức viết Task 2

Introduction 

Người viết có thể mở bằng 1-2 câu dẫn dắt bối cảnh, sau đó nêu rõ quan điểm. Ở phần này, bạn cần trả lời trực tiếp câu hỏi đề bài (đồng ý/không đồng ý/đánh giá hai chiều), tránh viết chung chung; mỗi từ trong đoạn mở đầu nên có vai trò định hướng cho toàn bài.

Body paragraphs 

Mỗi đoạn sẽ dùng để diễn đạt một luận điểm chính, giải thích cho quan điểm được nêu ở phần mở bài. Công thức 4 bước gồm:

• Topic sentence: nêu ý chính 
• Explanation: giải thích vì sao đúng
• Example/Evidence: ví dụ cụ thể (cá nhân/xã hội)
• Link: liên kết lại luận điểm chính của toàn bài

Thông thường bạn chỉ cần 2 đoạn là đủ cho trình độ B2, nên ưu tiên tính logic hơn số lượng ý. Trong quá trình viết, bạn có thể dùng từ nối (Firstly, Moreover, However…) để tạo mạch lập luận mượt hơn.

Conclusion 

Để kết bài, bạn có thể diễn đạt lại luận điểm chính, sao cho không lặp nguyên văn mở bài. Đồng thời, phần này phải tóm tắt ngắn gọn các ý đã triển khai và có thể thêm một câu mở rộng nhẹ (hàm ý, khuyến nghị), tránh đưa ý mới ở phần này.

Những lỗi sai khiến bạn mãi ở band 5.0-5.5

Nhiều thí sinh luyện rất nhiều đề thi Writing VSTEP nhưng vẫn kẹt ở band 5.0-5.5 chỉ vì mắc những lỗi cơ bản. Dưới đây là những lỗi điển hình mà các thí sinh cần xử lý:

Task 1 (Letter/Email):

• Dùng từ ngữ thiếu kiểm soát mức độ trang trọng (formal vs informal), dẫn đến lệch ngữ cảnh giao tiếp
• Bố cục thư chưa đầy đủ (thiếu opening/closing, không rõ mục đích ngay từ đầu)
• Bỏ sót yêu cầu đề bài, trả lời không đủ ý hoặc phân bổ nội dung mất cân đối

Task 2 (Essay):

• Lỗi chính tả cơ bản: viết hoa, viết tắt, số đếm…
• Từ vựng không phù hợp văn phong
• Lạc đề: luận cứ không trực tiếp chứng minh luận điểm, thiếu tính liên kết logic
• Quan điểm mơ hồ, thiếu nhất quán giữa mở bài, thân bài, kết luận

Nếu bạn tự học, hãy bám sát một lộ trình rõ ràng: luyện theo từng dạng đề thi Writing VSTEP, viết đều, và quan trọng nhất là rà soát lại bài theo tiêu chí chấm. Việc nhận diện và sửa đúng lỗi lặp lại sẽ giúp bạn tiến bộ nhanh hơn so với viết nhiều nhưng không có định hướng.
